An opportunity has arisen within The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) NHS Foundation Trust.
This is full time, fixed term role for a period of 6 months in the first instance (with potential extension subject to agreement of all parties by a further 6 months. ) The role will complement the six existing Consultants in Knee and Sports Injury Surgery at Oswestry.
The full time Locum Knee surgeon at the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital will be part of the Knee and Sports injury team. Referrals will be received for patients with knee problems in all age groups, including tertiary referrals.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will have completed their specialist training in trauma and orthopaedics with evidence of subspecialty fellowship training in knee surgery.
All Knee conditions are treated including developmental disorders; sports injuries (both amateurs and professionals); traumatic knee injuries and degenerative joint disease. A comprehensive service is provided to match the increasing demand in this field and the unit has a reputation for innovation and development of this specialty.
We currently carry out soft tissue/knee procedures such as meniscal and cruciate ligament surgery; autologous chondrocyte implantation and meniscal replacement/transplant.
We also undertake osteotomies around the knee, unicompartmental knee replacement, patellofemoral surgery, and primary/revision knee arthroplasty. The hospital is equipped with a cell culture laboratory and has ongoing cartilage regeneration research projects.
The post is available based on 10 programmed activities per week
