Job summary

To support the senior nurse/outreach team at MCSI and within our 4 major trauma centres in providing a comprehensive and professional administrative service for acute patients, assisting with management of the acute referral database.

To provide administrative support for surveillance nurse outreach team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. To undertake the typing of electronic patient record notes (EPR),

and associated correspondence of varied medical terminology, efficiently and accurately through audio word processing or copy typing. This work involves a significant use of the Trusts computer systems, SF4, Lorenzo, EPR, Big Hand, Bluespier and Word Microsoft Office. Dispatch letters to GPs and community teams.

2. Close liaison with outreach team to ensure efficient data entry on national spinal injuries database.

3. To support Outreach team with organising of educational events.

4. To populate excel spreadsheet for surveillance nurse activity and provide weekly forward look.

5. To support the outreach/surveillance team providing weekly updates for patients waiting for inpatient pressure ulcer management, to check all is in place for admission and arrange transport for admissions (pressure ulcer patients).

6. Prioritise own work schedule as required.

7. To take minutes of meetings relating to network model of care and surveillance nurse team.

8. Listen, analyse and respond to queries via telephone, e-mail and face to face contact from clinical and non-clinical NHS staff, patients, relatives and the general public in an articulate and sympathetic manner exercising ones own judgement effectively and efficiently as to when action is required and safe guarding patient confidentiality. To record as necessary queries on to the EPR system and pass to Nurse Consultant and/or Outreach team.

9. Show sympathy and empathy when dealing with anxious and distressed patients and relatives.

10. To direct telephone calls appropriately and to provide external callers with the correct information regarding appropriate referrals.

11. The ability to deal with difficult people and challenging situations.

12. Maintain all patients demographics, ensuring details are up to date and if necessary contacting the patient or GP to ensure demographics are accurate and complete thus meeting information Governance and Data Quality Standards and preventing DNAs.

13. Maintain staff demographics and assist with administration relating to staff records.

14. Inputting audit data.

15. The use of photocopying handling skills to reproduce documents as required.

16. Monitor stationary supplies within the section and identify faulty equipment notifying appropriate personnel.

17. To keep a record of interesting cases identified by the Nurse Consultant for auditing and research purposes.

18. To ensure any patient/personal information is disposed of in the correct Data-Shred waste bins provided.

19. Ensure that Health & Safety issues are brought to the attention of the Patient Access Manager or HCR Team Leader.

20. Achieve departmental objectives following Trust policies, Government guidelines and protocols.

21. To adhere to the Data Protection Act at all times
