Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Band 7 Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist with an interest in developing our respiratory service within our neuromuscular team. The current vacancy is 16 hours per week with the potential of an increase to hours. The post holder will work as part of an MDT and provide a high-quality physiotherapy service for children and adults with neuromuscular disorders. The post holder will be responsible for their own case load and undertake independent clinics for both adult and paediatric patients.
We are keen to recruit an individual with ambition for continuous personal and professional development relevant to our respiratory service.
Main duties of the job
To ensure, together with the senior clinical specialist neuromuscular physiotherapist and the Muscle Clinic MDT, development, and organisation of an efficient and effective provision of a high-quality physiotherapy service for children and adults with neuromuscular disorders
To undertake specialised and comprehensive assessments of neuromuscular patients, in line with national guidelines.
To undertake specialist respiratory assessments, with training as required, of both adults and paediatric patients with neuromuscular disease, in line with national guidelines and ATRP accreditation.
Provide and deliver individual or group treatment programmes for these patients within the scope of their clinical knowledge and under the guidance of the senior clinical specialist neuromuscular physiotherapist and the Neuromuscular consultants.
To increase knowledge of neuromuscular disorders both in adults and children.

To perform standardised physical assessments for patients with neuromuscular disorders and subsequently plan and deliver high quality treatment programmes with guidance from the senior clinical specialist neuromuscular physiotherapist.
To be part of the MDT paediatric and adult clinics and work independently and completely autonomously in virtual and face to face in clinics for both adult and paediatric patients. Interpreting assessment outcomes, provide high quality care, treatment and onward referral to respiratory consultants, community colleagues, orthopaedic consultants, and orthotic departments, as required.
Provide equipment required for treatment, training patient family/carer initially. Ongoing virtual support can be requested.
To hold responsibility for own caseload as an autonomous practitioner, working without direct supervision.
To attend updates and training in clinical assessments and use of the standardised assessments tools devised nationally for the collection of benchmark data in children and adults with neuromuscular disorders.
Maintain training and accreditation with ARTP to deliver affective lung function testing for paediatric and adult patients, within MDT and independent respiratory clinics. To have supported time to enable this after appropriate training in lung function testing and interpretation maintain accreditation and standards as per the ARTP for both paediatric and adult patients.
To provide equipment, treatments and advice following lung function testing.
To liaise with adult and paediatric respiratory consultants to facilitate and coordinate care pathways. Working with local paediatric and adult respiratory teams to maintain training, competence and accreditation in respiratory assessment and treatment modalities.
Support specialist interest groups with other neuromuscular respiratory physiotherapist and services to facilitate national care pathways.
To liaise with paediatric, adult physiotherapists and ORLAU specialist physiotherapists to facilitate care pathways.
To deliver a programme of in-service training in clinical assessments and the use of standard assessment tools devised nationally to junior physiotherapy staff and wider MDT. Supporting any students other allied health professionals who are working with the team.
Attending external events to present and educate colleagues in the community and nationally.
To be involved in audits, surveys and research projects to further own and the muscle teams clinical practice. To make recommendations to the muscle MDT that may lead the implementation of any specific changes to practice or contributes to service protocols.
To assist with on-going research trials through conducting literature reviews and processing and presenting data.
