Who we're looking for...

The Theatre Unit at RJAH comprises of 12 Theatres; 10 are located in the main theatre unit and 2 in our 'Menzies' unit, alongside a Recovery unit, a HDU and an on-site TSSU. We cover a wide spectrum of primarily elective Orthopaedic surgery including, but not exclusively, Revision & Primary Arthroplasty, Upper limb, Lower Limb, Sports Injuries, Spines, Tumour and Paediatrics.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for dedicated Adult or Children's Nurse/ ODP to join our team. The successful applicant will work alongside all members of the Theatre team and will be responsible for the delivery of safe, high quality evidence - based care within their allocated area, ensuring all resources within that area are safe and fit for purpose and ensuring the highest quality patient care standards. On a daily basis you will use your clinical knowledge to make decisions about patients in your care and your communication skills to communicate with all members of the multi-disciplinary team regarding aspects of the patient pathway.

The successful candidate must be a registered Adult or Children's Nurse or ODP with the relevant NMC/HCPC registration. Both The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, motivated, flexible, pro-active and committed to continuing CPD with a willingness to learn new skills. A recognised teaching / assessing qualification is desirable although not essential.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. Coordinating as and when required in the absence of a senior practitioner the highly specialist area of the recovery unit without supervision for a span of duty, which will involve being responsible for the smooth running of the recovery unit -using all forms of knowledge, skills and experience required to be able to undertake the duties competently.
  2. Demonstrating a high level of communication and inter-personal skills, promoting and maintaining effective liaison throughout the Unit and with the wider multidisciplinary This includes recognising potential issues and ensuring any changes or issues are communicated to theatres, anaesthetic staff and wards as necessary.
  3. Support the theatre and ODP coordinator in the effective and efficient management of the Communicating with the wards any changes of lists and when pre-medications are due.
  4. Communicating to anaesthetic/theatre staff any medical problems with patients prior to coming to the operating theatre.
  5. To organise the multidisciplinary staff allocated to his/her control on a daily basis and in the absence of the line manager take responsibility for the day to day supervision and co-ordination of staff within the Recovery department.
  6. Ensure the Health and Safety of all staff, patients and visitors, reporting all incidents/accidents/near misses to the coordinator or Document and monitor the safe use of equipment and economic use of supplies.
  7. To maintain an understanding of and adhere to all Trust and Unit policies and procedures and ensure attendance of mandatory annual training g. Fire, Manual Handling, CPR etc.
  8. To have an understanding of Risk Management, working with the Unit Manager to ensure risk assessments are relevant and
