Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Assistants to join The Telford Elective Surgery Hub (TESH) at The Princess Royal Hospital.

TESH is located on the first floor and is a purpose-built unit accommodating patients having planned surgical procedures. The unit consists of 12 admission PODS, 4 theatres and 16 stage 2 recovery trollies, a Surgical admissions Lounge and the Lofthouse unit and staff rotate through all areas.

Our team collaborates across various surgical specialties including General Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, Orthopaedics, Vascular, Colorectal, Ophthalmology, Dental, Head & Neck, and Breast Surgery.

This dynamic setting requires our Healthcare Assistants to provide both pre and post-operative surgical care, including preadmission support taking observations, assisting patient with personal needs and providing refreshments.

Experience in a surgical environment is advantageous but not essential, as we offer comprehensive learning opportunities. In addition to mandatory and statutory training, we provide an in-house competency package to all our Healthcare Assistant and support Trust-wide professional development initiatives.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and teamwork skills and demonstrate a commitment to enhancing patient experiences. We seek individuals who are compassionate, observant, and capable of delivering high-quality, patient-centered care within a challenging environment.

o You will help keep patients safe and comfortable by moving them correctly, keeping the ward tidy and preparing equipment.

o You will also support nurses with simple administrative tasks like updating records and answering the phone.

o You will follow training, work within Trust policies and communicate kindly with patients, families and staff.

o You will manage your own tasks during each shift and help create a calm, clean and supportive environment

About us

Our Poppy's Promise Commitment

We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team -- clinical or non-clinical -- plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.

We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.

Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.

By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values -- ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.
