An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and highly skilled Higher Level Medical Secretary to join our dedicated Head & Neck Secretariat team at Princess Royal Hospital. This is a pivotal role within a small, supportive team of Medical Secretaries. Providing high-level secretarial support to Consultants within the Head & Neck Cancer department, managing complex clinical correspondence using sensitive medical terminology via audio transcription. Organising and prioritising a varied workload in a fast-paced environment. Communicating effectively with multidisciplinary teams across all levels upholding the highest standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.

You should already possess:4 GCSEs (grades 9-4 or C-A) or equivalent,RSA Stage 3 typing and word processing skills (or equivalent experience), proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, aqualification or active progress toward NVQ Level 3 in Business/Medical Administration or AMSPAR

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for producing accurate clinical and general correspondence, frequently transcribing complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio dictation. In addition to administrative duties, you will handle telephone enquiries from patients who may be anxious or distressed, demonstrating empathy and professionalism while managing contentious and sensitive situations with discretion.This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the daily operations of a busy Medical Secretaries office. It is ideally suited to a motivated individual seeking to develop their skills and progress within a dynamic healthcare environment.

Manage multiple tasks, a significant and substantial number of which are non-routine ensuring that deadlines are met.

Transcribing complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio dictation

o Prioritise and organise own workload, making decisions and initiating action where necessary, ensuring the smooth running of the office\team through shared knowledge and cover.

o Ensure that the results of tests and investigation reports for patients are received; shown to medical staff and all relevant ongoing arrangements are carried out.o Using own initiative ensure that results which require immediate action are presented to theConsultant or other senior member of the Medical Team\Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) in a timelymanner and clinical responses are completed.
