An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Anticoagulation team, a 12 month Secondment opportunity to lead the team through a period of service change.
We are looking for a highly motivated and organised Lead Nurse to manage the Anticoagulation service on behalf of the Trust, to ensure an efficient and effective service, which complies with best practice.
You will be required to a lead a dedicated team of experienced anticoagulant nurse specialists, supported by a clerical team. You will provide professional and clinical leadership for patients, their families, carer(s), nurses and other Healthcare Professional(s).
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for caseload management, work allocation and clinical supervision. You will line manage the team and co-ordinate service delivery.
As the lead you will;
- train and ensure the competence of the team.
- ensure appropriate HR processes are followed with relation to sickness management and performance, escalating as necessary.
- be proactive in the maintenance of the quality of the department being involved in benchmarking, audit and clinical governance.
- monitor performance indicators and turnaround times.
- maintain and troubleshoot the Dawn Anticoagulation dosing system, ensuring updates are applied as appropriate
- demonstrate competence in the review of medical history & clinical information which may impact on effective anticoagulation, the interpretation of INR results, adjustments & monitoring of dosing regimes of vitamin K antagonists and provide expert clinical advice to patients, relatives, carers and other health care professionals.
- demonstrate strong effective decision making in relation to clinical management of patients on anticoagulants.
- act as a role model and be actively involved in staff development/support in relation to any change management during periods of service reconfiguration to ensure retention of motivated staff.

The Anticoagulation service serves the population of Shropshire and Mid Wales and provides anticoagulant monitoring and dosing. It is a nurse-led telephone service providing dose recommendations and advice for oral anticoagulants to patients, carers, nursing and medical staff. The team consists of specialist nurses and clerical staff overseen by a Consultant Haematologist. The service supports blended working, involving both shifts in the office and some working from home.
The team are warm and friendly and highly committed to the care of their patients.

Essential
- BSc Adult Nursing or equivalent qualification, training and experience.
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NM&C) Adult nurse, Level 1
- Post registration qualification - Specialist practitioner - degree/ diploma / certificate Anticoagulant qualification at Masters Level
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
- Teaching qualification: ENB 998 Teaching/Assessing, City & Guilds 7307/6, or equivalent
- Diploma in first line management
Experience
Essential
- oSubstantial post registration nursing experience on a surgical or medical ward
- oReasonable experience at Band 6 level or above.
- oExperience in anticoagulant management
- oExperience in supervising and delegating tasks to others.
- oExperience of developing practice in others and in possession of a wide skill set in teaching and learning practices.
- oCase load profiling to ensure needs of service users are met.
- oExperience of working and contributing within a case load of patients with complex care needs
