Job summary
We have a wonderful opportunity to work as a specialist Speech and Language Therapist in beautiful Shropshire. The post is based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury and consists of three days in Shrewsbury and two days in the market town of Oswestry in the North West of the county.
The Shrewsbury days will include two days of domiciliary visits in and around the beautiful town of Shrewsbury, and one day of mixed neurology outpatient sessions. The remainder of the post is providing a two day domiciliary service to the Oswestry area.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive service to a defined geographical area in mid and North West Shropshire. They will work autonomously running neuro outpatients sessions, visiting patients in both care homes and patient's own homes and providing input to the local ICS teams in and around Oswestry.
You will be able to drive and have access to a vehicle as the area covered is extensive and rural. We do have dept. pool cars which can be booked for use on visits.
You will need to have dysphagia skills at a post graduate level as dysphagia makes up a large proportion of the patients we see. You will also have an opportunity to provide a broad range of communication therapy.
Additionally, we have access to regular Video fluoroscopy clinics and a burgeoning FEES clinic that we are in the process of developing further. It may be possible to attend these clinics with patients referred from your own caseload to enhance learning and to aid support the patient's management.
About us
The community SLT team at SATH currently consists of 9 Speech and Language Therapists and two Assistant practitioners.
We work across the whole of Shropshire to include 4 community hospitals and The Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt orthopaedic hospital including their specialist spinal unit. We also provide a service into the ICS teams across the county.
We have clinical leads in the areas of Spinal injury, AAC, Dysfluency, Voice and dysphagia.
We are a hard working but friendly and supportive team working in an ever changing and fast paced environment. Given the nature of our caseloads, the range of disorders that we treat and the large geographical area that we cover, the post holder will need to be flexible and resilient, responding to the changing needs of the service on a daily basis.
We have regular clinical and management supervision, professional meetings and CPD sessions throughout the year.
