Job summary
We are seeking to appoint a committed, friendly, and helpful individual who has the right values and behaviours to be a part of our service. With support, you will be responsible for the day to day running of the Macmillan Cancer Support at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.
You will be responsible for managing high quality cancer information and provide a listening ear to people affected by cancer. You will need to understand the needs of cancer patients and be able to support them at different stages of their pathway. Dealing with sensitive situations on a daily basis, you will work with patients, relatives and staff to ensure that people accessing the Macmillan Cancer Support Service feel supported.
You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to provide a positive experience for people.
Main duties of the job
- We are looking for a professional, organised and self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills to provide efficient and comprehensive support topeople affected by cancer.
- To respond effectively to enquiries from service users who drop in, telephone or email in a sensitive and empathic manner. To have the knowledge and skills to respond to enquiries and signpost/ refer when appropriate.
- Advocate, support and listen to people affected by cancer who access the service by being responsive and focused on their needs.
- Manage the day-to-day running of the service and proactively promote the services available from Macmillan Cancer Support.
- Excellent communication skills using a variety of formats- telephone, email, face to face and virtually.
- Maintain and update data collection tools and ensure timely documentation.
- Proactively support the recruitment, mentoring and training of new staff/ volunteers.
- The ability to work with integrity, autonomously and without direct supervision at times
