Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mental Health Nurse leader to join our Corporate Nursing team as we continue our quality "Getting to Good" improvement journey.

Providing expert clinical and professional leadership across the Trust, working across boundaries as required developing and supporting improvements in a patient-centred, seamless care. You will be a visible role model, developing clinical practice standards across the organisation and assuring the provision of safe, effective and evidence based mental health nursing services to our patients.

The Lead Nurse for Mental Health will act as the named lead, supporting the Executive lead, the Director of Nursing by leading and co-ordinating the implementation of key quality improvement projects, in line with best practice across adult services as well as supporting specialist colleagues in relation to the mental health care in children services.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist expert mental health advice and support across the Trust, working in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Nursing to improve the care provided to patients with mental health to ensure this is evidence based and in line with legislation.

To support clinical teams in providing extensive working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and the interface with the Mental Capacity Act, to function as an effective role model demonstrating the application of breadth and depth of mental health nursing knowledge and skills.

This role is pivotal to creating and delivering our mental health vision, maintaining clinical standards of care and implement quality improvement; this includes ensuring the Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards are met and exceeded. You will also work closely with our Mental Health Provider and key stakeholders across the Integrated Care System.

Essential

  • Comprehensive specialist knowledge of Mental Health legislation
  • Experience of working across Divisional and organisational boundaries
  • Experience of senior leadership across the organisation
  • Sound knowledge and understanding in order to comply with local and national policies and procedures relating to legal frameworks
  • Knowledge of CQC regulation in relation to mental health
  • Demonstrable experience of complex analysis and interpretation
  • Substantial experience of working at a senior level including managing changing and introducing new ways of working in a complex environment

Qualifications

Essential

  • First degree master's or equivalent clinical experience that recognises highly developed and complex levels of knowledge
  • Postgraduate training or significant experience of leadership / management at a senior level
  • Evidence of quality improvement training
  • RMN registration
  • Postgraduate teaching qualification or substantial evidence of developing and facilitating education and professional development at all levels.

Desirable

  • Experience in CAHMS services
  • Project Management qualification
