Fragility Fracture Specialist Nurse

Job summary

This is an opportunity for an experienced orthopaedic nurse to take a role reviewing the risks of selected patients with a risk of fragility fracture, then referring them when appropriate for further investigations, and following up any medication or treatment requirements.

Main duties of the job

To work autonomously communicating with patients by telephone and on inpatient environments, using risk based tool - FRAX score, to determine patient risk and whether they require further assessment - DEXA long bone scan, and whether they require referral back to their GP for treatment.

The role will be based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, working alongside the Fracture Liaison Service and the Frailty Consultant body, but will require travel to The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, to liaise with the Advanced/Specialist Nurse Practitioner team.

To facilitate care for patients with a highlighted fragility fracture. With have skills in assessment, co-ordination and treatment of fragility fractures and being part of the multidisciplinary team within orthopaedics. The role will also include education and coordination of patient care.

The post holder will adhere to recommendations from the British Orthopaedic Association and the British GeriatricsSociety.

The successful candidate will function as a competent clinical practitioner within their designated clinical area, delivering direct patient care. Ensuring that there is efficient and effective utilisation of resources to deliver optimum quality care to their client group.

About us

This role is to provide an interim service, with the expectation that this role will slot into an anticpated expansion of the Fracture Liaison Service to cover all patient demographics in our region.

Orthopaedic services within SATH are undergoing an exciting period of development and change, to ensure we are providing exceptional service provision to our trauma orthopaedic patients. These changes include single site Acute Trauma, Enhanced recovery elective orthopaedic surgery, and the Hospital Transformation Program.
