Main duties of the job
- To function as a competent clinical practitioner within their designated clinical area.
- To deliver direct patient care whilst, co-ordinating and overseeing nursing/theatre practice.
- To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of clinical activities during their span of duty.
- To ensure that there is efficient and effective utilisation of resources to deliver optimum quality care to their client group.
- To deputise for the ward/ department manager in his / her absence,driving forward evidence-based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within their clinical area.
About us
The Emergency Department is undergoing a significant refurbishment to accommodate a safe and deliverable service to the patients and families of Shropshire/Telford & Wrekin. The refurbishment consists of an extension to our Major area, Pitstop, an Ambulance arrivals area, a dedicated Paediatric area alongside a new Urgent Treatment Centre for the Minors and GP stream. This is a very exciting time to join our Emergency Department with opportunities to develop with formal Royal College Nursing - Emergency Nurse Competency based assessments with accreditation supporting all nurses to work in majors, minors, resus, paediatrics and mental health. We value each role in our diverse multidisciplinary team of Health Care Assistants, Emergency Care Technicians, Housekeepers, Patient Flow Coordinators, Nurses, Paramedics, Practice Education Facilitators and Emergency Care Practitioners alongside our Receptionists and Operational managers. AMU work closely with ED across both sites for the early pull from ED into SDEC and we are scoping direct ambulance referrals to SDEC.

Essential
- RGN, Operating Theatres RGN or Registered ODP.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional development / qualification relevant to area of speciality.
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- High level clinical skills and knowledge.
- Potential to co-ordinate, manage and leading the team on a day-to-day basis
- Relevant post registration experience
- Evidence in undertaking preceptor / mentorship / supervisor / assessor role
- Evidence of teaching qualification

- Involvement in Audit / Research / Project
- An awareness and understanding of policy and practice relevant to speciality
