Job summary

We are looking for someone who is interested in helping to provide a safe, high quality Endoscopy Decontamination service to patients at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

We have x1 permanent full time position and x1 permanent part time position for Band 2 Technicians in the Decontamination area of the Endoscopy unit. We also have a one year fixed term/ secondment position available to cover maternity leave.

You must be conscientious and have the ability to give attention to detail. You will need to have a good standard of education (including literacy and numeracy), and the ability to work to tight deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well within a team are essential. You must also have excellent documentation and record keeping skills. Main duties of the job

The role will involve the manual cleaning and decontamination of flexible endoscopes before and after Endoscopy (OGD, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, bronchoscopy and EBUS, EUS and ERCP). Therefore, manual dexterity is essential. The role will involve managing the equipment so that scopes are ready for both morning and afternoon lists. You will also be required to assist in sending scopes away for service and repair.

You will work closely with the other members of the team to provide the best care for our patients working under strict guidelines and protocols. However, once training has been provided, staff will look to you for advice and expertise regarding decontamination and best practice.

About us

The Endoscopy unit at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital consists of 5 purpose built procedure rooms. The unit delivers the Bowel Cancer screening service alongside the diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy service to outpatients and inpatients. We are a training unit, training both medical staff and nurse endoscopists. We are committed to supporting your ongoing professional development.

The Endoscopy unit is now providing a 7 day working service. Candidates are welcomed to visit the unit to obtain an understanding of how the service runs. We would like to invite you to join our motivated and friendly team who are committed to providing a high quality, patient centred Endoscopy service. The team work closely with Gastroenterologists, Colorectal surgeons, Nurse Endoscopist's, Clinical Nurse Specialists and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The unit works together with the Research and Innovation Team as it is involved in many clinical trials.
