Job summary
We are pleased to offer this exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to lead the Pharmacy Aseptic Services team based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH). We are looking for a candidate with knowledge and experience in Technical Services, Quality Management, Clinical Nutrition and Radiopharmacy.
The Pharmacy Aseptic Unit is operating under Section 10 of the Medicines Act to locally provide high risk injectables to our patients including cytotoxic chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, monoclonal antibodies, CIVAs and radiopharmaceuticals, in addition to the provision of outsourced dose banded medicines.
The post holder will be the Accountable Pharmacist for the Aseptic unit, and responsible for quality assurance and other staff members within the service. They will be responsible for the strategic development of the service and ensure the service is aligned with national guidance, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) guidance and Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services (QAAPS) standards.
Applicants for the specialist role must be suitably qualified, as appropriate to the post. There is also the ability for this to be a prescribing role and those candidates who are not currently an independent prescriber will be supported and funded to undertake the qualification.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- Lead, deliver, develop, and evaluate Aseptic Services to the Trust, operating as a field expert and ensuring compliance with current directives, legislation, external audits, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and Health and Safety
- Lead and provide pharmacy expertise for parenteral nutrition in the Trust and be involved in direct clinical management of highly complex patients requiring clinical
- Be the Accountable pharmacist and also an Authorised Pharmacist for Technical Services ensuring methods used to prepare and release Chemotherapy, Parenteral Nutrition, Radiopharmaceuticals, Monoclonal Antibodies, Immunotherapy, Clinical Trials and other aseptic products prepared under section 10 of the Medicines Act comply with national 'Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services' (QAAPS) standards and the EL (97)52 audit framework.
- Be responsible for the strategic development of Aseptic Services and Clinical Nutrition to the trust in line of national, regional, network and local
- Function as an Independent Prescriber (IP) to optimise medicine regimes for the patients requiring Clinical Nutrition, ensuring appropriate medicines are prescribed or de-prescribed after
