Speech & Language Therapist with Clinical Lead for Voice

Job summary

We have an exciting position available for a Highly Specialised Speech and Language Therapist as Clinical Lead for Voice. This new post will include working closely with ENT and SLT colleagues, working in the joint consultant voice clinic with our Laryngologist and running SLT led Nasendoscopy clinics. There will also be an opportunity to carry out voice therapy clinics and to train in FEES for ENT dysphagia patients.

In addition, this post will include responsibility for coordination of outpatient services within SLT in the Care Closer to Home Centre. This will involve monitoring waiting lists for the voice, community and acute teams and ensuring response standards are met and ensuring we have efficient patient pathways and SOPs and policies to support the work within the outpatients service.

This is an opportunity to shape and develop the service and work with the wider SLT and ENT teams to provide an excellent comprehensive service for voice and its' related disorders.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be passionate about the clinical field of voice and outpatient services and the pursuit of best evidence-based practice in voice diagnostic assessment and management.

You will join a team of established voice therapists currently providing services across the county of Shropshire in a range of settings. You will take the lead in the following areas:

  • Lead in voice competency development of other members of the team.
  • Provision of expert second opinion in voice management for less experienced clinicians within the larger SLT team.
  • Work alongside the consultant laryngologist to provide joint voice clinics.
  • Independently run SLT led nasendoscopy clinics.
  • Contribute to the ENT teaching programme.
  • Monitor all SLT outpatient service lists in collaboration with the Therapy quality leads.
  • Lead in the evaluation of our current voice service provision to make recommendations for service quality improvement and change.

Our community team delivers a countywide service to three community hospitals and an orthopaedic hospital and a specialist spinal injury unit. We provide ward based, outpatient and domiciliary services.
