Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within our team of educators for a Practice Education Facilitator to support the Keele Medical school undergraduate medical programme. The post holder will work closely with the Senior Practice Education Facilitator and Undergraduate Teamto provide high quality education and skills training to undergraduate medical students and also support programme development.

The successful candidate will be a Registered Nurse with a strong interest in education and professional development. In addition to this extensive clinical experience in general and acute settings and good underpinning knowledge of policies, procedures and best practice are essential. Previous experience of formal teaching, skills training and mentoring are highly desirable, as is evident motivation and enthusiasm to pursue educational excellence.

Main duties of the job

This post has arisen in response to the expansion of medical student numbers at the Trust and a recognition of the importance of skills teaching and learning in a collaborative approach with nursing. The post holder will mainly be teaching medical students but will be part of an established team of practice educators responsible for teaching multidisciplinary skills.

  • To provide clinical skills training and support for Keele University Undergraduate medical students
  • Toprovide education, training and assessment in clinical practice with a multi-disciplinary team
  • To assist the Senior Practice Education Facilitator (SPEF) in the management of the clinical skills lab for undergraduate medical students and work closely with the clinical skills technicians
  • To assist the Senior Practice Education Facilitator (SPEF) to develop guidelines and implement developments in practice ensuring these are audited.
  • To support and facilitate innovation in care provision in a structured and systematic way.
  • To offer professional guidance and support to clinical staff.
  • To act as a clinical and educational role model.

About us

We are responsible for teaching around 160+ Keele University medical students in our hospitals and across Shropshire as they complete their final 2 years of training prior to graduation. You would not only work alongside a number of Trust departments but also in close liaison with Keele School of Medicine. You would work directly with an enthusiastic and successful team of other Practice Education Facilitators and work closely with the Hospital Dean & Deputy Dean, Year Leads, UG Tutors and the teaching support team. Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree or equivalent in Clinical Specialty, Education or other relevant subject area
  • Mentorship/ preceptorship qualification or equivalent

Desirable

  • Teaching qualification

Experience & Knowledge

  • High level clinical skills and knowledge.
