Support Secretary - Diabetes Endocrinology

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Secretary to provide a valuable support service to our Diabetes & Endocrine Specialist Nurses at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The post is Band 3 and the successful candidate will be working 24.5 hours per week.

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team under the supervision and guidance of the diabetes specialist nurses, and will provide high quality, evidence based care and support of people with diabetes within the acute inpatient setting and specialist outpatient clinics.

The post holder will also undertake administrative duties designed to ensure the smooth running of the diabetes specialist nurse pump and technology service. This will require higher level inputting of data via Excel and other software programmes.

Qualifications: Educated to GSCE level or equivalent. Experience within a medical environment is desirable but is not essential.

Main duties of the job

The Post holder will undertake a range of clinically specific skills appropriate to the delivery of diabetes care with the appropriate level of training and competence. Such skills include the ability to:

Monitor all referral routes to the specialist team and action referrals appropriately according to agreed protocols

Record all findings in the clinical records and patient notes according to Trust policy

Carry out administrative and clerical tasks required in a timely manner and to ensure accurate and risk managed records.

Providing information on services available to people with diabetes and their carers which may help them to manage their condition in the longer term

Participate in and contribute to effective teamwork. This includes the ability to:

Prioritise and maintain own caseload, time and resources effectively and carry out health related tasks

Contribute to the planning, monitoring and review of service delivery by attending team briefing and any other relevant meetings

Take and record messages clearly, action as appropriate or pass on to the relevant professional in a timely manner

About us

The successful post holder is a pivotal person in the patient's relationship with the hospital, the clinical team and the Consultants. The team support each other to organise the workload of the Consultants within the department and ensure that an efficient service is provided.
