Job summary

The post-holder will participate in a three year, apprenticeship programme. This will focus on aspects of the work of the Radiotherapy Physics service but will also introduce the trainee to all aspects of medical physics.

The trainee will be expected to attend an accredited, part-time BSc Healthcare Science degree (Radiotherapy Physics). The work requires close collaboration with other staff involved with the provision of Radiotherapy Physics service and other medical physics colleagues. The post-holder will carry out the duties in accordance with the written policies and procedures of the department.

The post holder will be paid under Agenda for Change Annex 21 (Band 5).

Main duties of the job

  • Outlining anatomical structures for standard situations.
  • Design individual treatment plans for standard treatment techniques.
  • To support the design and fabrication of customised.Radiotherapy and Physics aids adhering to all procedures andhealth and safety protocols.
  • Provide treatment parameters and dosimetric data for patients to undergo radiotherapy.
  • To continually monitor personal and departmental activity toensure the health and safety of the individual, team colleaguesand Trust patients.
  • To communicate dosimetric information to more senior staffwithin the department.
  • To communicate and work effectively with other professionalsi.e. hospital physicists, dosimetrists and therapy radiographers.
  • To attend training events and sessions as agreed through theTrust's personal review process to ensure professionadevelopment is continually maintained.

About us

The department consists of 3 Varian Truebeam Linear Accelerators; a Gulmay Unit and a Canon wide bore CT scanner. The treatment planning system in place is Eclipse.

A new Canon Exceed LB CT scanner has just been installed.

We are planning to extend the SABR service to include bone and nodes soon.

We have an active Clinical Trials department and participate in a number of trials.

Time away from work is just as important and Shropshire is a beautiful, mostly rural county where we enjoy a high quality of life.
