Service Director - Medium Secure Service (Men’s)

Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Service Director, Men's Medium Secure Service within West London Forensic Services, West London NHS Trust.

The post-holder will provide leadership, direction, and operational management across the Medium Secure wards and services at the St Bernard's site, working closely with the Clinical Lead, Clinical Director, and Senior Management Team (SMT). They will support strategic development, performance monitoring, and contribute as a key member of the CSU Senior Management Team.

The role includes overseeing the effective operational management of the Men's Medium Secure Services, ensuring high-quality clinical care through strong management of multidisciplinary teams. The post-holder will ensure the development of robust clinical processes, operational policies, and well-functioning MDTs, supporting informed decision-making throughout assessment, treatment and aftercare pathways.

They will also represent the service at regional, national, and international forums on forensic care and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, including the North London Forensic Collaborative.

Please note this is a substantive post, subject to a six-month probation period. Interviews and the service user and carer stakeholder panel will take place face to face on 16 April 2026.

Main duties of the job

Provide effective operational leadership and line management. Contribute to the Trust's Quality and Clinical Strategy. Work with the Director, Clinical Director, Clinical Lead, Commissioners and senior managers to monitor performance and support strategic development. Support the Clinical Lead with Clinical Governance, ensuring service-level integration and involvement of service users and carers. Chair the Men's Medium Secure Directorate Management Team.

Promote innovation and continuous improvement in patient care. Ensure timely performance monitoring and reporting. Oversee financial management to keep services within budget and ensure efficient use of resources. Support strong multidisciplinary working and effective patient pathways, ensuring high-quality care and robust CPA processes. Implement Trust initiatives that enhance staff wellbeing.

Provide line management to designated staff and ensure compliance with CQC requirements. Embed learning from incidents and contribute to wider forensic mental health planning. Support clinical and corporate governance. Maintain MDT standards and professional practice compliance. Ensure clinical supervision, engagement in audit, research and quality improvement, and delivery of appropriate patient therapy. Lead "Back to the Floor" and "Leading the Floor" initiatives. Monitor Service Development/Improvement Plans, CQUIN compliance, and ensure safeguarding is effectively managed with partner agencies.
