Job summary
To provide a high standard Hand Therapy service with in the Hand Injuries Unit. This involves working alone occasionally and as part of the team within Hounslow & Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust.
Depending on service requirements: - supervision of Therapy Assistant and students.
Main duties of the job
Provide a high quality Hand Therapy service working under the guidance of more senior Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists and in lone worker environment in Plastics Hand clinics.
To work as an autonomous practitioner in providing specialist hand therapy, assessment and treatment of patients with diverse presentations and complex hand injuries and conditions.
Provide a diagnosis, develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
To use evidence based principles, current best practice and specialist skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment.
A high standard of clinical work is required which includes teaching and supervision of junior staff, assistants and students.

- Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy or an equivalent qualification
- Current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
- Evidence of ongoing personal/professional development (portfolio)
- Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
Desirable
- British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT) Level 1 qualification.
- Membership of a relevant special interest group.
- Currently working towards a Master's degree (MSc) or membership of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP).

- Significant recent practical experience working as a Band 5 Physiotherapist.
- Experience across a broad range of Band 5 clinical specialities, including musculoskeletal and orthopaedic care.
- Significant post-registration clinical experience in musculoskeletal care.
- Out-patient musculoskeletal physiotherapy experience to include: o Consultant referrals o GP referrals o Rheumatology o Orthopaedic In-patients o Lone working e.g. on call/GP surgery
- Experience of chronic pain management and knowledge of different approaches in pain management
- Ability to formulate a sound prognosis and advise other members of the MDT
- Skilled in exercise prescription
- Posture analysis and biomechanical assessment skills
- Good working knowledge of the principles of electrotherapy and its application to the management of musculoskeletal conditions
- Previous hand therapy experience
