This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual to take a key clinical role in the delivery of psychological care pathways for the St Mary's Hospital Major Trauma Centre. We are looking for a psychologist to contribute to the implementation of the integrated psychological model of care, working in partnership with psychology leads and the Major Trauma team.

New Major Trauma Psychology teams were recently created at each of London's four major trauma centres. This role will help implement inpatient and outpatient follow-up screening and treatment pathways for survivors of major trauma. As well as an active clinical role, there will opportunities for supervision, support and training to assistant psychologists, working within the MTC pathways.

The post-holder will be a member of the Clinical Health Psychology & Neuropsychology Department, and will be joining our Major Trauma Psychology team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have experience in working in relevant health settings as part of an MDT.

The main duties include, but are not limited to:

- Working with the Major Trauma Psychology team and the Major Trauma Centre (MTC) MDT to deliver new psychological pathways of care

- Provide clinical support to patients and their families on the newly established Major Trauma psychology pathways, on both an inpatient and outpatient basis

- Support the development of a psychological milieu and a trauma-informed approach to care.

- Undertake complex assessments and intervention strategies

- Offer consultancy and provide expert advice to MTC colleagues, and the wider clinical multi-professional team, other agencies and non-professional carers.

- Contribute to the design and delivery of education and training to the MTC MDT and for services on the wider NWL care pathways, where appropriate

- Contribute to the coordination of the psychological response to major incidents in London

Experience

Essential

  • Assessed experience of working as a qualified practitioner psychologist, within a medical setting or a directly relevant area of specialism
  • Experience of highly specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature following physical injury or in the context of a complex medical condition.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of working with, and addressing issues of diversity, including experience of working with a multicultural framework.
