Job summary

This is a newly created 10 session post which sits in tier 3 Ealing CAMHS Adolescent team for young people aged 15-18 years of age. Tier 3 CAMHS offers specialist assessment, therapeutic interventions and support to children and young people who are presenting with severe and complex mental health difficulties.

The Ealing Adolescent team is a compassionate and creative team which values communication, care and multi-disciplinary working. This post offers opportunities for close working with the Ealing neurodevelopmental team and the Ealing Children and families team which treats under fourteens. There is also close working with the tri-borough Alliance crisis team and the Eating disorders team.

The Ealing patient population is very diverse and cases are varied and interesting with scope to work alongside Youth Ambassadors in the Trust to better engage with hard to reach communities.

The job would involve joining our team as a staff grade doctor with roles alongside team members in the assessment and treatment of young people meeting our threshold. Presentations include psychosis, affective disorders, PTSD and emotional dysregulation as well as high risk behaviours including self-harm.

Main duties of the job

The Clinician will join the Adolescent team and be part of the team's weekly clinical review meetings where cases are discussed and reflected on under the leadership of the team Consultant.

The Clinician will also contribute to new assessment clinics alongside the team once a month. The Clinician will be expected to be involved in case management and will have a number of cases allocated to them for treatment. They will also have ample opportunity to co-work cases with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

The Clinician will have responsibility for the safe prescribing of medication, including checking and administration. Our CAMHS Pharmacists would support them in this, and in help them to develop skills in prescribing for young people.

The doctor will attend multi-professional meetings and liaise with the extended networks involved in providing services to young people in our care, including social services and schools.

The expectation is that the Clinician will maintain a high standard of clinical work and be honest and open with families and staff. Willingness to learn and contribute to our team meetings is desired, The Clinician will also champion service user safety and dignity.

Clinical Supervision will be offered by the Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist on a weekly basis.

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Completed 4 years' full time postgraduate training (equivalent on a part time basis) at least 2 of which will be in a speciality training programme in a relevant specialty.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with three months of appointment
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. MRCPsych
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months. Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment
