Main duties of the job

As a HBPoS HCA you are responsible for the care and safety of all service users who come into contact with our service and for the staff whom work alongside you.

You will maintain excellent interpersonal relationships with internal and external parties, including but not limited to: NHS 111, police, AMHP service, EDT, medical team, GP service, A&E/liaison, community mental health teams, crisis teams and SPA/bed management (internal and external).

You will carry out and support your team to carry out mental state examinations, physical health assessments, comprehensive risk assessments and de-escalation interventions.

A major aspect of this role is ensuring the correct S136 process has been followed, including prior to the service user's arrival and whilst they are receiving care in the service and ensuring the correct escalation process is followed where necessary.

  • oEducated to GCSE level or equivalent (with a minimum of 5 A-C qualifications which must include Maths and English)

Desirable

  • oNVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Working with individuals who have experienced mental illness
  • To be knowledgeable/understanding about factors that cause/impact of mental health problems
  • Demonstrable interest in working within a care setting

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in mental health crisis care i.e. inpatient services, crisis teams etc
  • Previous experience of working with people with Autism and/or those with Learning Disabilities.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill
  • Able to work on own initiative
  • IT literate - specifically in the MS office suite of programmes.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake training to increase knowledge and skills
  • Be able to reflect on incidents and establish what could have done differently
  • Take on board feedback in a positive and constructive manner
  • Knowledge of relevant mental health law.
  • Knowledge of adult and children safeguarding requirements
