Job summary

We are seeking a passionate and committed Positive Behavioural Specialist to join our dynamic psychological services team within the Ealing community team for people with learning disabilities.

This post offers excellent opportunities for joint working alongside a range of professionals (speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychiatry, nursing, and social work) to deliver holistic support to people with learning disabilities, their families and carers. Our psychological therapies team offers music therapy, positive behaviour support, family therapy and group therapies to our clients.

Our team is based at 62 Green Lane, Ealing, London W7 2PB. Regular travelling required, mainly in borough, and some occasional out of borough.

Main duties of the job

Clinical:

  • To work in accordance with local protocols for assessing, understanding and intervening to address behaviours that challenge
  • To ensure all work is focussed on improving Quality of Life and improving relational outcomes.
  • To analyse information obtained through functional analysis in order to formulate the development of interventions designed to improve the persons quality of life
  • To develop Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBS) under the guidance of the Transforming Care Agenda.
  • To devise and implement interventions and evaluate their effectiveness
  • To network with other professionals, agencies and organisations
  • To provide specialist advice to families, services and other professionals regarding challenging needs.

Teaching, training and supervision

To receive regular supervision from a clinical psychologist

To co-ordinate & facilitate training opportunities/workshops etc. for other services & agencies

To contribute to PBS team reflective practice supervision

To provide advice, consultation & training to staff working with the client group across a range of settings

General

  • To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest standards of practice and CPD
  • To co-ordinate and participate in meetings, reviews, case conferences etc. as required.
  • To manage own time & prioritise workload.
  • To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies & issues in relation to the specific client group.

Experience

Essential

  • At least 2 years experience in Learning Disability environment supporting children or adults with challenging needs.
  • Experience of working in a professional role autonomously.
  • Ability to demonstrate person centred values and the focus on quality of life outcomes

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience of working with complex Autistic Spectrum disorder
  • A history of successful PBS interventions
  • Experience in teaching and training others
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Experience in working systemically with families and staff teams

Knowledge

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge of current good practice in Learning Disabilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of theories and strategies for Challenging Behaviour and Positive Behaviour Support.

  • An understanding of Attachment theory and its application to challenging needs work
