Job summary

This is an exciting job opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist interested in expanding their experience in working with patients with acquired brain injury and neurological conditions. We are recruiting to a 12 month fixed term split post working as part of the Ealing Community Neuropsychology Service and the Hounslow Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service.

We are looking for someone with experience of neuropsychological rehabilitation and/or neuropsychological assessment and intervention with patients with neurological conditions. The post would particularly suit someone who enjoys working with varied client groups, teamwork, providing consultation and teaching to other health professionals, and contributing to service development. We would welcome applications from newly qualified psychologists.

We are part of a broader clinical neuropsychology and health network in West London NHS Trust, with over 20 neuropsychologists and health psychologists working across North West London. We meet regularly with the wider network which offers excellent opportunities for peer support and continued professional development. We are also able to offer specialist supervision and support to psychologists who would like to pursue training for entry on the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychology. We have strong links with the clinical psychology training courses and regularly support trainee placements

Main duties of the job

This post is a split role across two services providing neuropsychological support to patients with acquired brain injury and neurological conditions. The Ealing Community Neuropsychology services has a number of psychologists who provide neuropsychological assessment and treatment to patients with neurological conditions living in Ealing. The Hounslow Neuro-Rehabilitation Team is a community neuro-rehabilitation service working with adults with acquired and long-term neurological conditions in Hounslow.

Alongside senior clinical psychologists, the role will involve neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation for patients with neurological disorders as well as providing support for their families and carers. This will often include cognitive rehabilitation, psychological therapy to help emotional adjustment and engagement in rehabilitation, behavioural interventions, teaching, consultation and running support groups for patients, family or carers

TRAINING & QUALIFICATION

Essential

  • Post-graduate, doctoral level training in clinical psychology, or its equivalent, leading to eligibility for Chartered Status by the British Psychological Society.

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology assessment, intervention and outcome measures with patients with neurological conditions.
  • Experience of working at a specialist/highly specialist clinical psychologist level in neurological rehabilitation setting
  • Experience of working within and actively participating in a team environment and contributing a psychological perspective within the context of multi-disciplinary care.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology.
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
  • Knowledge of recent government policy and legislation relevant to neuropsychological rehabilitation (e.g. NSF for Long Term Conditions, NICE Guidelines for Stroke)
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology
