Job summary
If you are recently qualified and looking for a post to support your transition from student to clinician or have some qualified work experience, but would like to explore other service areas, then this rotational post is for you. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse mix of clients across multiple settings in order to support the development of your core occupational therapy skills. The rotations are in a range of clinical areas in both physical and mental health, as well as inpatient and community services.
Rotations include:
- Clayponds Rehabilitation Hospital (Ealing)
- Community Independence Service (Hammersmith and Fulham) - Short Term Rehab
- Community Independence Service (Hammersmith and Fulham) - Case Management
- Mental Health Integrated Network Team (Hounslow)
- Older Peoples Mental Health Service - Meridian Ward (inpatient unit) (Hammersmith and Fulham)
Each rotation is a minimum of 6 months in duration and supervision is offered by a senior occupational therapist and/or therapy lead in each service area. West London NHS Trust has strong allied health professional and occupational therapy leadership teams, which are supportive of staff and their development needs. There is an established preceptorship programme for your first 18 months in a qualified position, which includes teaching sessions, peer support and one-to-one support sessions.
Main duties of the job
Clayponds Hospital, is a bedded physical rehabilitation hospital with 3 wards and community services for Ealing community partnership. Jasmin and Magnolia wards are an integral part of the wider Intermediate Care team based at Clayponds Hospital. Patients have access to a variety of equipment in a large unique gym space and additional specific designated ADL rooms. Patients receive specialist therapy input until they are able to return their to preferred discharge destination (where appropriate) with support from our excellent community teams as needed.
Community Independence Service - Short Term Rehab
Short term rehab team as part of the wider CIS service in Hammersmith and Fulham. The team consists of OTs, PTs and rehab assistants working on short term interventions to improve wellbeing and functioning in the community.
Community Independence Service - Case Management
Case management working with clients with complex pathologies living with these long term conditions in the community, that require more focused case management to prevent deterioration or hospital admission. The team of Occupational Therapists, nurses and health care assistants work in a collaborative approach with the acute medical team from imperial college Hospital and social care. Clients often have a mix of medical and social care needs that require more monitoring and coordination.
