Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic full time team member who can deal with varied clinical and administrative work. You will be dealing with both clinical and non-clinical staff as well as patients from various referral sources, and their carers/relatives. We aim to deliver a high standard of patient care at all times.To work as a Radiology Department Assistant you will need some experience of working in an health care environment. The successful candidate will be proactive, dynamic, and meticulous in their work taking pride in what they do. There is an expectation to work flexibly as core opening hours extend 8am-8pm.It is essential that the successful candidate has good organisation and communications skills as well as competent IT skills. We work with two systems in Imaging, our Radiology system Sectra and the main electronic patient record system Medway.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team consisting of radiographers, sonographers, phlebotomists and ophthalmic technicians, clerical and medical staff.
The post holder will be expected to undertake care, clerical and administrative duties as part of a team, ensuring the maintenance of basic and essential services is met.
Training will be given to ensure that full functions can be carried out effectively and safely. The post holder will be assessed and certified competent.
The post holder will communicate effectively with other departments and disciplines across the Trust.
It is important that the post holder portrays a welcoming, professional and caring image.
The post holder is expected to have a flexible and "can do approach" in ensuring the work of the department is carried out to the required high standards.

As a dedicated Healthcare Assistant in our Radiology Department, you will play a vital role in supporting patients and staff during CT, MRI, and Ultrasound examinations. Your contributions will ensure the provision of high-quality, efficient, and effective radiology services to our community, enhancing patient experience and care.Key Responsibilities: Work closely with the multidisciplinary imaging team, fostering effective communication and collaboration to deliver high-quality care. Liaise with healthcare professionals and referring clinicians to ensure seamless service delivery to patients. Act as a chaperone when required, upholding the privacy, dignity, andcomfort of patients, respecting their cultural and religious beliefs. Undertake tasks such as cannulation and/or phlebotomy as required, following appropriate training and certification. Rotate through designated areas of the department, supporting various imaging processes and adhering to guidance from qualified practitioners and consultant radiologists. After receiving adequate training, assist medical staff with special procedures, ensuring protocols are followed for patient safety and care. Contribute to the training of new non-radiographic staff, sharing knowledge and practices to enhance team capabilities. Facilitate the safe movement and handling of patients, ensuring a secure and comfortable environment for both patients and staff. Offer clear, reassuring explanations to patients regarding the nature of their examinations, providing reassurance and support throughout their visit. Ensure patient gowns and necessary supplies are readily available, maintaining a focus on hygiene and patient dignity. Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring they are clean, tidy, and adequately stocked for various types of radiology examinations. Assist in the general cleaning and quality assurance checks of radiology equipment, supporting infection control measures effectively. Perform administrative tasks including answering phone calls, booking appointments, photocopying, and supporting reception staff as needed. Monitor and manage stock levels of consumables, ensuring essential supplies are always on hand. Adhere to divisional policies regarding patient care, health and safety, radiation protection, and infection control measures. Report any potential or actual equipment faults and hazards to ensure a safe working environment. Be familiar with and comply with Health & Safety, Ionising Radiation, and COSHH policies as outlined by the Trust. Maintain accurate clinical and other records, ensuring all information is fully and accurately documented.Decision Making: Manage and coordinate your workload in collaboration with clinical staff. Escalate service provision issues to senior staff promptly. Proactively report hazards or equipment faults to ensure a safe working environment.
