Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and committed candidate to join our team as a Locum Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine (GIM) for a 12-month fixed term locum. The successful candidate will join our friendly and innovative multidisciplinary team at Whittington Health NHS Trust.

You will be fully involved in all activities of the department, including education and training, quality improvement and service development. You will provide both general Diabetes & Endocrinology care and have a specialist focus on management of patients using diabetes-related technologies, including in the diabetes antenatal clinic, and on the management of complex diabetic foot disease. There is a commitment to General Internal Medicine on our inpatient ward.

Duties of the Post

The postholder will provide high quality direct clinical care for patients in Diabetes & Endocrinology and in GIM.

For Diabetes & Endocrinology, the postholder will contribute to patient care in outpatient clinics and for inpatient care.

The postholder will contribute to the management of patients with Type 1 diabetes, including to the care of those on insulin pumps and hybrid closed loop systems.

The postholder will contribute to the management of women in the diabetes antenatal clinic.

The postholder will contribute to the management of patients with complex diabetic foot disease.

The postholder will have the opportunity to contribute to the Diabetes Transition Clinic, an MDT clinic provided jointly by the Paediatric and adults diabetes services for adolescent patients transitioning to the young adult clinic.

The postholder will contribute to the provision patient clinical management advice to primary care through the Advice & Guidance system.

The postholder will contribute to the provision of new patient referral triage clinics, to ensure appropriate appointment allocation and necessary investigations performed.

The postholder will provide consultant-led care for inpatients both for GIM and specialty.

The responsibilities of the postholder will vary according to the needs of the service and in relation to consultant staff returning to or leaving the team.

  • MB BS or equivalent GMC registered qualifications
  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent specialist qualification
  • Entry on GMC specialist register for General Internal Medicine and for Diabetes & Endocrinology via: -CCST/CCT or -Within six months of achieving CCST/CCT or -CESR or -European Community Rights
