Job summary

We are seeking a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine, Acute medicine or General practice to join our Virtual Ward/ Hospital at Home and provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary teamcaring for patients in a virtual ward setting. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing themedical care of patients, supervising other medical staff, and ensuring the higheststandards of care are delivered.

We are open to applications from candidates at all stages in exploring this sub-specialtyincluding those for whom this would be a first post. We are looking for a collaborativecolleague with a strong grounding in core community medicine who is keen to develop aninterest in the virtual ward in a supportive environment.

The post holder will work within the Adult Community Services Department at WhittingtonHealth. The primary duty of the post will be to provide senior clinical input to the Virtual Ward, Hospital at Home service.

The lead consultant, senior GP will also liaise closely with consultant colleagues in acute medicine, respiratory and cardiology who each provide virtual support to their patient groups.

The structure of the service will develop further once the successful candidate is in post but is likely to involve a daily MDT, telephone advice, and some domiciliary visiting to more complex patients. The ward will receive step down patients from acute Trusts across NCL including UCLH and Whittington Health acute hospitals as well as step up patients from the urgent community response services in the Borough of Islington and Haringey. Prospective cover for annual and study leave will also be built into the timetable.
