Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing leadership and the operational management of the Whittington Health Imaging Department (WHI) ensuring the efficient and effective use of resources, and the development and maintenance of the highest standards of patient care and service delivery.

The post holder will be part of the ACW Divisional management team and will assist the Imaging & Wood Green Community Diagnostic Centre (WG CDC) General Manager, the Clinical Director, and the Director of Operations in delivering the Trust's strategic and operational agenda.

The Post Holder will be expected to oversee the day-to-day service management issues, liaising with departments and teams as required.

The post holder will provide line management for key staff within the departments and will be expected to contribute to the business planning process for the departments and be a key enabler to deliver the Imaging contracted activity plan, achievement of all national access standards and a comprehensive governance framework within the services.

The Whittington Health Imaging Department (WHI)

The department is composed of consultant radiologists, sonographers, radiographers and administrative and clerical staff. Staff have comprehensive experience across a wide range of clinical areas with specialists at radiography and consultant level.

The WHI has a state-of-the-art digital imaging system which means that reports on patients' scans and x-rays can be sent electronically to GPs and other departments in the hospital.

To support the General Manager and the Divisional Senior team in the monitoring of activity and income so that the contracted plan is delivered.

To provide regular feedback on service performance to the Divisional performance meetings and the Divisional board.

To ensure effective management of the asset register and the equipment replacement programme, appropriate management, maintenance and procurement of contracts and equipment. Responsible for managing the business process in relation to bids for capital equipment.

To be responsible for all aspects of procurement for the department(s) to ensure best value and efficient use of resources.

To be responsible for a range of policy implementation and service development.

Finance management and Business Planning

To be a named budget holder, maximising the use of resources and delivering a balanced budget. Lead the contribution to the delivery of the Divisional efficiency target.

To work in close association with the Divisions finance team to ensure sound financial management, effective communication, and financial reporting.

To identify, communicate and implement robust Cost Improvement Programmes (CIP) in the departments.

To ensure compliance with the Trusts Standing Financial Instructions (SFI).

To manage demand and capacity in relation to performance to ensure access and appropriate utilisation of all resources, ensuring robust processes to maximise efficiency and meet ICSU objectives.

To undertake capacity and demand reviews to inform sustainability of services in line with business developments.

To contribute to the annual and business planning process for ACW ICUS services, linking with the General Manager, service managers, matrons/CNS, nursing staff and clinical leads regarding operative capacity and demand.
