Job summary

CAMHS Youth Justice Service Specialist mental Health Clinician (Clinical Psychologist, Mental health Nurse, Child Psychotherapist, Family Therapist, Mental Health Social worker), Maternity leave cover

Contract: 12 months (fixed term)

Hours: Part-time - 6 sessions per week

Grade: NHS AfC: Band 7

Annual Leave: 27 days per annum increasing to 29 days after 5 years NHS service and 33 days after 10 years NHS service

Main duties of the job

Screening and assessing Children and Young people where there is consent for CAMHS to become involved

Determining whether further therapeutic work would be beneficial. Liaising with further services where more input is needed and sharing any risk concerns.

To provide ongoing work to children and young people who would like to continue accessing therapeutic support.

Provide a flexible approach to therapeutic support. Generally working with children up to the completion of court order where necessary.

To provide consultation spaces, offering one hour bi-monthly to each case manager to consult on their caseload of children and young people to identify any mental health concerns, support with delivery of intervention.

Attend weekly Early intervention and Diversion panel meeting (Multi-agency meeting) where all children and young people who have come into contact with the police are discussed

Offer mental health screening to children and young people who are discussed at the Early Intervention Diversion panel when necessary, reviewing EIDP Children and young people's case notes on health care records and summarize on need-to-know basis

Providing a CAMHS service within YJS in line with service level agreement and Key performance indicators

  • A professional qualification in Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Child Psychotherapy, Family Therapy or other core mental health discipline.
  • Registration with relevant professional body (e.g. HCPC, NMC, ACP, UKCP)

  • High level knowledge of psychological theory and practice relevant to anti-social and offending young people e.g. social learning theory and cognitive behavioural therapy.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of psychological and psychometric methods of mental health assessment, intervention and management of children and young people.
  • Ability to acquire and apply a highly collaborative, team-based model of working to deliver high quality health care to challenging, disadvantaged and young people with high level of complexity and contextual safeguarding, and their families in non-health settings.
  • Ability to form good working relationships and work flexibly with colleagues and clients in multidisciplinary, multi-agency and criminal justice settings.
