Post SummaryThis is a stand alone FY2 equivalent post which has become available due to an unexpected FY2 rotational vacancy. It is particularly suitable for a doctor seeking to complete theirFoundation training and will facilitate the achievements required for a CREST form to enter Core Training in Medicine or those seeking further experience in Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus. This is a 4-month (with possibility of extending to 8 or 12 months) post, based on the Endocrinology & Diabetes Inpatient Ward and includes speciality outpatient clinics. This post will enable you to further develop clinical knowledge across the general internal medicine curriculum, specialist knowledge in general endocrinology & diabetes mellitus management in the acute and outpatient settings, and give you the opportunity to practice many procedures and skills.
The working hours daily will be 0900 to 1700 with no on calls.
You will work within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team. Your training will mirror that given to doctors in formal training programmes and you will be allocated a Consultant Supervisor to support your career development. You will be encouraged to grow as a clinician and participate in governance including mortality reviews, QIPs, departmental and trust-wide educational activities. Previous clinical fellows have gone on to training across a spectrum of programmes including IMT, GP training and others.

In-Patient Ward Cover Victoria Ward
This is a 25 bed ward on the 5th floor shared equally between the Endocrinology & Diabetes and the Gastroenterology Teams. The is Endocrinology & Diabetes patients are looked after by 1 Consultant, 1 registrar, 2 FY1s, and 1 GP trainee with daily senior ward rounds.
Wider team staffing includes dedicated and highly trained nursing, nursing assistant, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, diabetes and endocrinology specialist nursing, podiatry and tissue viability, MDT team, pharmacy and a full complement of support staff.
Outpatient ClinicsThese are based in the outpatients' department and are either general endocrinology or general diabetes clinics, with either face to face or telephone reviews.
Development OpportunitiesThe Endocrinology & Diabetes Department is a friendly and dynamic environment, rich in learning opportunities in clinical experience, procedures and developing communication skills. You will have the opportunity to participate in training, including teaching sessions, clinical supervision and quality improvement projects and mortality reviews. The Whittington Hospital is well recognised for quality in teaching and education, and you will participate in medical student bedside and clinical teaching. You can participate in educational and personal development opportunities across the entire hospital, including quality improvement and audit projects.
