Fire Watcher

Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for working within the remediation project as a Fire Watcher to assist the Trust in keeping buildings safe and support the fire safety operation across the site. Our Firewatchers (Waking Watch) will work in a shift pattern (three nine-hour shifts per week) to ensure that the service is covered over a 24-hour period, 7 days a week. To ensure effective communication, the shifts overlap by 1 hour to allow a formal handover from one shift to the next as well as a documented handover in the logbook signed by both parties.

The post holder will be responsible for identifying and logging of fire related issues and risks, liaising with Clinical teams to ensure best practice and build rapport, carry out audits on fire warden checks in different Clinical areas and assist fire safety team with training and evacuation exercises.

Main duties of the job

- To patrol blocks A&L, common areas and all departments.

- To review the weekly fire warden checklist in collaboration with the Fire Safety Team.

- To provide a running commentary at Fire Safety Meetings by way of update.

- To work with Clinical and other in-house teams to ensure best practice in relation to fire safety is followed at all times.

- To provide and receive a detailed physical handover at the end / start of each shift.

- To test automatic door releases as part of routine patrols and document findings.

- To check the provision and condition of evacuation equipment.

- To carry out an external walk at least once per shift.

- To liaise with the Security Team on all relevant matters.

- To watch out for fire hazards in the workplace while works is performed by other employees and bring hazards identified to the attention of staff members (to prevent future occurrence)

- To maintain situational awareness and raise the alarm in an emergency.

- To respond to fire alarm activations to support the Fire Response Team duties needed.

- Undertake training to understand all fire safety systems within the patrolled buildings and to request guidance if unsure.

- Undertake training to operate any required plant.

- Undertake training to understand fire safety strategy in the Trust buildings and evacuation plans.
