Job summary

Whittington Health are looking for a dynamic, ambitious and motivated individual to lead our improvement journey. We are at the earliest stages of our improvement journey and looking to decide on a methodology and begin rollout to the whole Trust. The exciting, newly-combined role of improvement and strategy will lead that work whilst also maintaining momentum on existing transformation priorities around flow, elective and outpatients. In addition, they will support our anchor institution, population health and neighbourhood team work.

Main duties of the job

The Director of Improvement and Strategy will lead the Trust's approach to Improvement. They will develop an improvement approach and create and manage a team working with the Divisions in delivering improvement and achieving operational excellence. The Improvement Director will be responsible for the delivery of the Trust improvement programme, working with the Division and corporate senior teams to develop transformational changes that deliver ongoing quality benefits and efficiencies. The post holder will be an integral member of the Chief Strategy Officer's team, whilst also working very closely with the COO supporting service delivery and the development of continuous improvement and business planning. The post holder will contribute to a culture of excellence in performance management and service delivery.

About us

The post holder will join an existing team of improvement and transformation staff and will also work with the Executive team to develop the Trust's strategic direction, Deputising for the Chief Strategy Officer as required in trust-wide fora including the Trust Board and Trust Management Group to provide expert strategic guidance and leadership to inform trust-wide decision-making. They will support the refresh of the Trust's clinical strategy and implementation with special attention to population health, collaboration with councils and other providers such as UCLH to ensure it aligns with the Trust's academic, commercial and estates strategic development plans to provide long term sustainability and affordability. They will work with other providers and commissioners across North Central London to develop and implement key clinical services, transformation and strategic service reconfiguration and represent the Trust within the community and with partner organisations, and working closely with them to support the collaborative implementation of the clinical and non-clinical work programmes

Create, influence and lead a new improvement methodology for the Trust including creating a business case for appropriate investment.

Use service improvement methodology to drive efficiency and delivery of high-quality services.

Direct and drive the identification, planning and delivery of Whittington Healths Improvement Programme in conjunction with the Division leads.

Ensure the Improvement Delivery Unity support resource achieves maximum beneficial effect, by allocating it according to the greatest need/benefit and ensuring the skills provided match those required.

Support operational teams to meet and exceed all national and local key performance indicators and standards.
