Job summary
This role within the administrative team in Emergency Department is to support the smooth running of the department. The role will assist the clinical staff on the shop floor by managing the flow of patients through the department. The role will report to the ED Management Team for all managerial matters.The post holder will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining and updating Medway with regards to patient flow within the ED. This monitoring should include, but is not limited to, Majors, fit2sit area, Resus, Urgent Care, Paediatric ED, with waiting times and pressure areas within the department overall.The post holders will attend the daily nursing and medical handovers and participate in the ED safety huddles.The role will also ensure breaches of the 4 hour standard are monitored and escalated to the Nurse in Charge, Medical Controller and Service Manager as required. Correct breach reasons must always be entered for all breach discharges and this role will be responsible for ensuring this is always adhered to.The post holder will form a key part of the daily operational management of the department and as so will be jointly responsible for ensuring the ED Escalation policy is followed and departmental pressures are escalated as appropriate using the policy.The post holder will also liaise with external organisations as required; for example with the London Ambulance Service and the Mental Health Liaison Team regarding operational pressures and patient plans.
