Job summary
The South Hub is commissioned to provide urgent assessment to Young People across Camden and Islington who may otherwise present at A&E. The South Hub aims to prevent unnecessary A&E visits to young people presenting in Crisis, who do not require medical interventions.
This is an exciting time to join the South Hub team, as we aim to expand our outreach programme to Schools and GPs across Islington and Camden. Through closer working relationships, we hope to further reduce unnecessary presentations at our local A&Es; Whittington, UCLH and Royal Free Hospitals.
Alongside offering support to Schools and GPs, the South Hub will continue to provide 7-day Follow Up appointments, Walk-in appointments and urgent mental health assessment to young people across Camden and Islington.
The team works in a friendly and supportive environment, co-located with Islington CAMHS, a short walk from the Whittington hospital and has allowed for flexible moving of staff to see young people where most appropriate. Staff will work flexibly across Camden and Islington, both within existing CAMHS bases and expanding within Schools and GP practices.
The principal purpose of the role is to provide clinical interventions to improve the psychological health and wellbeing of patients in MH crisis or requiring urgent care, whilst supporting the implementation of the Hub, supervising junior staff and developing their skill sets.
Main duties of the job
- To provide clinical leadership to the CAMHS South Hub team, ensuring children and young people in MH crisis receive safe effective and quality care in the Hub.
- To develop and establish systems and protocols, and wider service developments, to ensure the delivery of safe and effective care to children and young people presenting in mental health crisis across the South of North Central London.
- To develop, where required, and review policies and guidance in line with national legislation and local policies and ensure RMN and HCA staff are up to date and aware of these.
- To provide specialist advice, education and support to parents, their carers and other health care professionals for children with Mental Health problems.
- To accept patient referrals to agreed criteria and be the identified key worker for a patient/client caseload for defined episodes of care.
- To practice clinically in agreed care settings according to established protocols or guidelines and will support the development and smooth running of the nursing input to mental health service.
- The post holder will work to agreed professional, departmental and Trust boundaries as required to provide patient-centred seamless care.
- To establish and nurture effective working relationship with all partner agencies with the aim to create a seamless crisis pathway for South NCL children and young people, and their families.
