Job summary
The main components of the Clinical Charge Nurse role are:
- To manage clinical areas designated by the Lead Nurse and Ward Manager
- To take responsibility for the co-ordination of nursing care plans and assessment schedules.
Nurses work individually with young people through key working, groups and family work. You will have the opportunity to expand your day to day management experience and to build up links with referrers and community based services.
- To maintain specific clinical input as: a) Keyworker b) Group facilitator c) Milieu Manager and d) Trainer/Trainee
This post offers a range of clinical, therapeutic and managerial experience. There is scope for professional development and preparation for advancement.
At times the work will involve emotional and mental effort that deals with family breakdown, serious mental illness, child abuse where there will be instance of verbal and physical aggression.

Simmons House is a 12 bedded adolescent inpatient unit specialising in the treatment for young peoplepresenting witha range ofmental health problems.
Simmons House works within a therapeutic milieu model as well as incorporating many other models of therapy.
This role involves working 24/7 shift pattern, including weekends and night shifts.
As Clinical Charge Nurse you will manage clinical areas designated by the ward manager and lead nurse. Take responsibility for the co-ordination of nursing care plans and assessment schedules. You will be a pivotal part of the milieu setting, working in a committed and highly skilled nursing team; you will have the opportunity to develop your nursing skills as well as developing therapeutic skills. Specifically clinical input will be in keyworking, group facilitating, milieu management are being a trainer/trainee.

We offer a developed and highly structured system of supervision and training, specifically nurses will have individual supervision, weekly group supervision (involving the whole MDT), Key working supervision and a nursing psychology group weekly. We also carry out 3 in-house training days a year which involve current evident based practice learning. We are committed to supporting suitable post-basic study, in line with the knowledge skills framework.
Whilst previous relevant experience would be an advantage, we are equally impressed with those who can demonstrate imagination and enthusiasm, and who feel they can make a contribution to the work with this stimulating and rewarding client group.
