Are you a nurse whose NMC registration has lapsed and who misses working as a nurse and the rewards and challenges of caring for patients? Look no further. Together with our partner City, University of London we can help return you to the nursing profession.
We have several opportunities for previously Registered Nurses who would like to undertake a Return to Practice nursing course and then immediately resume their career as a Band 5 nurse.
We work closely with our partner at City, University of London to offer and support re-registration through the completion of a Return to Practice (RTP) course. The next course date is January 2024
The voluntary pathway allows you to complete the required placement hours on a non-paid voluntary basis at your chosen hours per week. City, University of London will process all DBS and occupational health checks for this route. Upon successful completion of the course, you can apply for a Band 5 post.
Main duties of the job
University fees are currently paid by Health Education England and a bursary of £1000 one-off payment is provided to all successful candidates midway through the course.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be supported in applying for a band 5 registered nurse position. Upon success at interview, we at Whittington Health will support your development as a registered nurse through a preceptorship period and beyond.

MAIN DUTIES
- Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, families and carers in planning and delivering compassionate care
- Develop and maintain appropriate communication with members of the multidisciplinary team
- Assist in planning, implementation, and evaluation (APIE) of individual programmes of care for patients using an appropriate nursing model
- Provide and deliver a high standard of comprehensive skilled and evidence-based nursing care recognising and meeting the specific needs of the patients
- Be able to prioritise their own workload
- Support and empower patients, carers, and their families to identify and achieve their health and well-being goals.
- Carry out clinical observations on patients, recognising, recording, and reporting abnormalities and changes in patients condition to a registered practitioner
- Assist in the recording of fluid balance, reporting discrepancies to a registered practitioner
- Assist with all aspects of personal hygiene for the patient
- Assist in ensuring patients nutritional needs are met
- Assist in planning and implementing methods of rehabilitation for patients and their carers
- Safely dispose of equipment, post procedure, restocking where appropriate
- Assist in the safe moving and handling of patients utilising appropriate equipment
- Utilise early warning score indicators (e.g., NEWS) to recognise any patient deterioration/sudden change in condition, reporting immediately to a registered practitioner
- Prepare and undertake interventions consistent with evidence-based practice, transferring and applying knowledge and skills to meet patients needs
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records that ensure safety and continuity of patient care.
- Utilise appropriate resources in the provision of total patient care.
