CAMHS Practitioner CYP-IAPT Trainee - Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Adolescents (IPT-A)
This is a full-time Band 6 post fixed-term for one year.
Islington CAMHS is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic mental health practitioners to train on a Children and Young People's Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) diploma course, specialising in Interpersonal Therapy for Adolescents (IPT-A). The successful applicants will be employed by Whittington Health NHS Trust on this Health Education England (HEE) funded Recruit to Train programme, in partnership with the Anna Freud Centre and University College London.They will carry out clinical work in our service to complement their studies and develop their skills.
This post is based in the core CAMHS Therapies Team, our multidisciplinary team delivering clinic-based therapies for common mental health problems.
Main duties of the job
To be considered for this post, applicants must be available to start by 09.01.2024 (course will start on 15.01.2024) and have completed a core professional training relevant to child mental health practice, as follows:
- Practitioner psychologist (HCPC registered)
- Arts psychotherapist (HCPC registered)
- Counsellor (BACP registered)
- Child psychotherapist (ACP registered)
- CBT or Behaviour Therapist (BABCP registered)
- Social Worker (SWE registered)
- Mental Health Nurse (NMC registered)
- Occupational Therapist (HCPC registered)

The post-holder will work in the service for at least 2.5 days per week using their newly-developed skills whilst attending the UCL training programme and related study time for the other 2.5 days. After successful completion of the course the fixed term training contract will end; however applicants would be encouraged to apply for any vacant posts within the service.
The post-holder will deliver IPT-A with young people in Islington CAMHS who present with depression. The role will also involve suitability assessments for the therapy, clinical record-keeping, multi-agency liaison, using outcome measures, contributing to the work of the multi-agency Therapies Team and completion of a postgraduate training in IPT-A as described in the course brochure.

This role will be best suited for applicants that are able to balance a very busy work and study schedule. You will be an employee at the service but also enrolled on a Postgraduate Diploma course. As this is a Postgraduate level training, you will be required to study and perform at academic level. Applicants must be prepared to work towards their studies outside of protected study time (such as on weekends and after work). Protected study time or teaching days are typically two days a week during term (with possibility of extra university days near start) and will be a mixture of in person and online sessions. Applicants must be willing to travel into London to attend their lectures.
