Job summary

The candidate will be joining a well-established Clinical Education team within Emergency Medicine working with two other Adult Nurse CEF's, a CEF for Children's Emergency Department, a CEF for Minor Injury/Illness + UTC, and a Clinical Education HCSW. We support the large group of Emergency Medicine Nursing + AHP staff, covering Adult Emergency Department, Children's Emergency Department, Minor Injury + Illness Unit and Urgent Treatment Centres, Acute Medical Short Stay, Acute Frailty Unit and Medical Assessment Unit.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

The role as Emergency Medicine Clinical Education Facilitator is responsible for supporting the delivery, coordination, and evaluation of clinical education programs within our Emergency Medicine Group settings. The role focuses on enhancing the clinical competence of healthcare professionals--including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and allied health staff--by facilitating training, simulation, supervision and assessment, leading to achieving professional development aligned with evidence-based emergency medicine practices.

The facilitator collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to design and implement educational initiatives that improve patient safety, clinical performance, and adherence to emergency care protocols. The role also involves evaluating educational outcomes, identifying learning needs within the emergency department, and contributing to the development of innovative teaching strategies that address the dynamic and high-acuity environment of emergency medicine.

The position requires strong clinical knowledge of emergency medicine care, excellent communication and facilitation skills, and the ability to engage diverse learners in a fast-paced healthcare setting while promoting continuous professional development and quality improvement.

  • To be a visible practice presence in the clinical learning environments working clinically alongside learners to enable them to achieve their learning objectives.
  • The successful candidate will work within our team to take responsibility for specific tasks such as delivering training to our wider emergency medicine team on a new device, whilst monitoring progress through excellent record keeping.
  • Responsibilities include coordinating teaching sessions, supporting simulation-based training, mentoring learners, and assisting in the assessment of clinical competencies.
  • Work with senior staff and practice assessors and supervisors to ensure students and other learners receive a robust induction and orientation to the placement areas.
  • Working closely with new starters in emergency medicine, specifically newly qualified professionals both in a classroom and clinical supervision setting to support their induction and settling in period within their new role.
  • To provide support to those assessing and supervising students/ learners on a range of programmes.
  • Being kept up to date with own clinical knowledge and skills, to an expert level, able to cascade knowledge and skills to the required roles.
  • Monitoring, interpreting and actioning figures of mandatory and essential training, communicating with the wider teams to ensure engagement and performance achieved
  • Communicating to team leaders any barriers to own or wider team performance, with active initiative for resolving barriers
  • To signpost staff to the appropriate information, advice and guidance relating to the learning opportunities provided within the trust.
  • To ensure all training activity is quality assured and meets regulatory and auditory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and relatives.
  • Participate in clinical audit and reviews of patient care, as required.
  • Working one clinical shift a week (0.3WTE); varying clinical presence across the emergency medicine clinical areas. This shift may be flexible to meet service demand/needs.
