Our General (open and Robotic) Renal and Vascular Theatres has an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Theatre Practitioner. We are looking for a highly enthusiastic and dynamic individual who is a competent Scrub practitioner in General and vascular surgical procedures with a willingness to become dual trained in Anaesthetics. The successful candidate is expected to have excellent communication skills to support the team in achieving high standards of patient care within theatres.In return we offer comprehensive training in all aspects of our service. In addition, we have a dedicated team of Theatre Clinical Educators who will support and guide you through the excellent range of opportunities that UHCW NHS Trust has to offer.
As a provider of patient-centred care, we are passionate about delivering excellent care to our local and extended population in the acute environment and in recent years, our theatres have achieved large gains in productivity and efficiency through improved capacity management and real-time tracking of theatre activity.

Main duties of the job
The primary focus of the post is to ensure that the Trust provides high quality patient centred care.
- Will act as an advocate for patients.
- The practitioner will provide clinical leadership for a specified theatre / specialist area and deputise in the absence of the band 7 clinical lead.
- The practitioner will be required to weekends as service dedicates.
- The practitioner will become proficient in rostering and absence management.
- The practitioner will carry out a wide range of theatre duties at the direction of senior staff.
- The practitioner will be responsible for their own professional conduct in line with NMC/HPC Code of Conduct. They will adhere to and understand all Trust & local policies and procedures

Job responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the peri-operative care of patients using specialist knowledge and skills.
- Acknowledge personal preferences, rights and choice of patients undergoing surgery.
- Maintain health, safety, and the control of infection in clinical work areas in line with Trust policies and procedures.
- Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs to patients, and monitor the effects of drugs on patients in line with Trust policies.
- Prepare, monitor, and maintain materials and equipment for clinical procedures, take action if found to be faulty.
- Support, monitor and care for patients during clinical procedures.
- Contribute to treating patients during clinical emergencies
- Receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedures.
- Maintain accurate & legible records of care
Clinical - Surgery/Anaesthetics/Recovery
- Assess requirements of the theatre/anaesthetic room/recovery room for the operating list.
- Provide all necessary equipment and materials for the list.
- Monitor all equipment used, act if found to be faulty.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of operative procedures/departmental procedures
- Demonstrate budgetary control, ordering and supplying materials required within agreed budgets.
Teamwork
- Communicate effectively with other members of the theatre team and other clinical work areas.
- Acknowledge and value peoples roles within the team.
- Recognise own and other limitations within the team and take appropriate action.
- Provide required resources for anticipated workload and to cover 24-hour emergency rotas.
- Manage the theatre team to ensure effective & efficient use of funded theatre time.
- Participate in achieving the aims of the department/Trust.
Leadership and Innovation
- Effectively support and lead the theatre team and deputise in the absence of your band 7 lead.
- Delegate tasks appropriately.
- Demonstrate a flexible attitude to changes. Support and implement new changes in practice within the theatre department and the Trust.
- Contribute new ideas for change to meet patient and staff needs, provide recommendations, and evaluate change.
- Reflect theatre philosophy within their work area.
- Recognise, prevent, and diffuse areas of conflict within the theatre environment.
- Contribute to the effective & efficient utilisation of theatre resources, identify shortfalls & liaise with the Theatre Manager
- Carry out Personal Development Reviews to meet personal and service objectives.
