Job summary
This would be an excellent opportunity to increase your expertise in all aspects of stroke care. The stroke unit (ward 41) has 6 hyperacute and 30 acute/rehabilitation beds. The stroke service lies within the Department of Neurosciences and you will join a team that consists of 6 consultant stroke physicians (from different parent specialties: Geriatrics, Acute Medicine, Neurology), 2 Neurology Specialist Registrars, a Geriatric Specialist Registrar and 8 Junior Clinical Fellows, an F1 trainee as well as a 24/7 rota of Stroke Clinical Nurse Specialists [CNS], a stroke co-ordinator and 2 research nurses/facilitators.
The post is based at the University Hospital in Coventry and we admit around 850 patients a year. A dedicated 24/7 thrombolysis service has been running since 2008 and covers a population of about 1 million and we currently treat around 160 patients every year with iv Tpa.
A mechanical thrombectomy service is being developed with patients being treated on site and at University Hospital Birmingham. A dedicated 'one stop' acute TIA clinical runs 7 days a week supported by walk in carotid ultrasound and MRI services.

Main duties of the job
Duties include:
To provide stroke services for the Trust in collaboration with colleagues in all disciplines including primary and tertiary care, where appropriate, to provide an integrated service for all patients.
To take on-going responsibility for patients under the consultant's care.
To develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialities and participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities.
To demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit - this will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice.
Ensure own practice is up to date; this will include taking responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and participating in the Trust's Performance and Annual Review system.
Sharing responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers.
Complying with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures.
Taking responsibility for improving and complying with infection control practices.
