Job summary

We have an opportunity for you to join our Haematology Service here at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust as a Clinical Nurse Specialist - this is a newly created post.

We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational and forward thinking nurse who is passionate about supporting patients with a myeloid haematological condition and has the ability to drive this Service forward.

You should have extensive experience in Haematology as well as having excellent leadership, management and communication skills.

The post holder will play a key role in ensuring high standards of care for all patients and will be an integral key member in the co-ordination and organisation of haematology pathways, throughout treatment, symptom management, relapse, emergency admissions and living with and beyond treatment. You will also work in a consultancy capacity across our Trust and local health care services.

The post holder will act as an autonomous nurse specialist and will develop and deliver nurse led services within Haematology. This will include telephone, face to face activity and inpatient reviews.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

To provide a specialist nursing service for the care and ongoing management of patients with a myeloid haematology diagnosis. You will participate in the provision of high-quality care from diagnosis, through treatment and during follow up.

You will make informed decisions within your own area and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards and targets are met.

The post holder will develop and implement opportunities for advancing nursing practice and for ensuring collaborative working relationships, incorporating expert clinical practice, leadership, consultation, and education.

  • The post holder will be a designated Haematology (Myeloid) Clinical Nurse Specialist within the hospital and will provide expert specialist advice for patients, relatives, and carers and to other health care professionals and the Primary Health Care Team
  • To work across the Trust and primary care boundaries to aid continuity of care, thus offering a seamless service from diagnosis onwards
  • They will provide emotional support to patients, their families, and staff during difficult situations e.g., breaking bad news or following an unexpected event
  • To be an active member of the Haematology/Myeloid MDT, utilising excellent communication skills, enabling maintenance of a high-quality service, and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations
  • Demonstrate a high level of clinical, technical and research skills through breadth and depth of knowledge
  • To develop nurse led clinics and to undertake highly specialised technical and/or practical skills, including advanced health assessments and non-medical prescribing to ensure optimum patient management within the post holders scope of competency
  • To ensure that the patients holistic needs are taken into account in the decision-making process including completion of the E-HNA
  • A resource for health professionals, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice
  • Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes
  • Responsible for education and training provision of identified staff groups within defined areas and ensuring that evidence-based care is embedded into practice
