Job summary

A skilled practitioner, providing leadership and management support, developing, improving and evaluating best practice within the department. The post holder will deputise for the department manager as required across both clinical areas. The post holder will support management for clinical and operational issues relating to MaxFax, ENT and head and neck services.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

  1. Accountable for own actions in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council, Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies always.
  2. Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team.
  3. A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development. The post holder will deputise in the absence of the clinic manager and will be responsible for the management of the team in their absence.
  4. Support the management of clinical and operational processes within our MaxFax departments, liaising with members of the Multidisciplinary Teams e.g., SLT, McMillan, dietician, MaxFax labs, plastics CNS team and radiology physics.
  5. Identifying areas of service improvement and implementing improvements with the team using UHCWi methodology. Leading the service as an autonomous practitioner, providing a high standard of care to the patient group.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients in, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented, and evaluated/audited. Ensuring patient information is up to date and acting as patient advocate where necessary.
  • Organisation of and participation in cross-departmental/organisational activities including HR, sickness management, resourcing, and bleep-holder and floor control responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical clinical skills, to ensure optimum patient management including complex patient monitoring, wound management, medicines management, safeguarding procedures, and equipment maintenance - acting as a resource and role model for junior staff.
  • Develop and educate the different specialty staff across both departments and students, participating in supervision, mentorship and appraisal as required. Monitoring mandatory training compliance of self and others to ensure it is completed in a timely manner.
  • Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring varying levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
  • Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g., imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.
  • Support the review of patient safety incidents, able to use the Datix system and disseminate any learning from adverse events.
  • Actively involved in patient experience events and monitoring.
  • Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards. Supporting the development of local risk assessments as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control always. Using audit tools to monitor this.
  • To be responsible for the ordering and maintenance of stock levels within both departments, liaising with materials management and participating in product evaluation and research. Ensure materials are cost effective and appropriate for the procedures and treatments provided.
  • To support the management of staffing work list and roster, using the e-roster system. Ensuring safe, effective skill mix and staffing levels to support clinics. Ensuring the staffing levels are safe and cost effective.
  • Ensure self and others utilise information and IT systems effectively to ensure patient information and outcomes are recorded accurately and timely. Ensuring all actions and patient care is documented accurately and legibly as per Trust policy. Keeping up to date and acting as point of contact for developments in IT systems cascading information to staff where necessary.
  • Support and carry out local, Trust wide and national audits in a timely manner, analysing results and formulating action plans with the management team to maintain and improving standards to meet KPIs etc.
