Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse for Endoscopy

Job summary
Act as a clinical leader and role model to provide high quality patient centred care in the endoscopy setting at UHCW NHS Trust. The role requires extensive knowledge and experience of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures (OGD, Colonoscopy, FOS, EMR, EUS, ERCP) as well as bronchoscopy and EBUS. Sharing of knowledge and experience with all staff grades in the form of teaching, mentoring and assessing. Active involvement in managerial duties, supporting the unit manager to ensure the unit runs at its most optimal level always maintaining patient safety, including expansion of duties during times of absence. Leading the 24 hour on call team as required (evenings and weekends based on a roster).
The practitioner will be responsible for their own professional conduct in line with NMC Code of Conduct and adhere to and understand all Trust & local policies and have an understanding of guidance from relevant professional bodies including BSG and JAG.
The role covers both endoscopy units Coventry and Rugby. Duties are based on a 7 day working roster.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
Main duties of the job
- Assess requirements endoscopy room/recovery room for the endoscopy list.
- Provide and prepare all necessary equipment and materials for the list.
- Monitor all equipment used, take action if found to be faulty.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge standard operating procedure for the endoscopy unit.
- Assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the care of patients using specialist knowledge and skills.
- Acknowledge personal preferences, rights and choice of patients undergoing different endoscopic procedures.
- Provide a thorough explanation of individual procedures to the patient as part of the Trust consent procedure.
- Maintain health, safety and the control of infection in clinical work areas in line with Trust policies and procedures.
- Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs to patients, and monitor the effects of drugs on patients in line with Trust policies.
- Prepare, monitor and maintain materials and equipment for clinical procedures, take action if found to be faulty.
- Support, monitor and care for patients during clinical procedures and in the post procedure recovery phase
- Actively take part to treating patients during clinical emergencies and support other staff involved
- Receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedures.
