Job summary

The Department of Cardiac Investigation is based in the outpatients department at UHCW, Hospital of St Cross and the newly opened City of Coventry diagnostic centre on a rotational basis . This role would suit an enthusiastic and reliable team member to work at all Trust sites, closely with the Cardiac Physiologists and other professionals within Cardiology. The department caters for a large variety of patients both adult and a small number of paediatric from within all areas of the hospital and wider community. Previous work experience in a relevant healthcare environment is advantageous

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

  • As a Cardiographer you will be required to take a lead role within the team responsible for the recording of Electrocardiograms (ECG's) in the hospital for outpatients and inpatients as required, attaching ambulatory monitors (ECG and BP) and the organisational duties associated with these procedures. Other duties required will include supporting the Cardiac Physiologists, junior cardiographers and students in their day to day duties such as preparing patients for tests within the department.
  • As a Cardiographer you will be required to supervise and teach students and other staff members within the trust relevant tests in keeping with your skill set.
  • We want to ensure that we deliver the best possible care to our patients, so you will need to have a real interest in Cardiology and in working with members of the public.
  • You will be expected to deal with patients queries in person and on the phone, therefore be able to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You will already hold the SCST Award in Electrocardiography or be working towards taking, the Certificate in Electrocardiography examination in the very near future.

  • To fit ambulatory ECG and BP monitors to patients, and to remove the monitors preparing them for analysis without supervision.
  • To issue ECG event recorders ensuring that clear instructions for use and return are given to patients.
  • To ensure an appropriate mechanism for identifying the location of ambulatory monitors is maintained within the department.
  • To understand the significance of results of BP recording and to liaise with Cardiac Physiologists should the need arise.
