Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to take on a varied and fast-paced operational role. The candidate will require skills in problem-solving and decision-making, along with excellent time and personnel management skills in order to ensure our dispensary and stores areas provide a quality service for our patients.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
Main duties of the job
To provide operational leadership and line management to the Lead Technician(s) Operational Services, Dispensary Co-ordinator and Medicines Management and Ward Stock Supply Co-ordinator.
To work with the wider operations team to develop and sustain processes that align to our obligations and standards (local and national), around safe and effective Pharmacy Medicines Management, within the department and our supply chain.

Job responsibilities
- Ensure day to day technical responsibilities within the pharmacy stores and dispensary are planned, delegated appropriately and conducted.
- Ensure operational plans for the dispensary and stores e.g. rotas are arranged in advance by the Lead Operational Technicians and Dispensary Co-ordinator. To have oversight of potential problems, ensuring they are resolved by relevant teams appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Liaise with the Ward Services Operational Manager, ensuring all aspects of the pharmacy technical service are operating safely, monitoring capacity and responding to service needs appropriately.
- Responsible for assuring all technical staff working within the dispensary and stores areas undertake and complete training to the required standard. Undertake regular reviews with the Lead Operational Technicians to obtain performance and compliance reports, initiating action plans where necessary. This includes mandatory training compliance across the team.
- Review current processes and work with the operations team to identify process inefficiencies (waste) and redesign services to align.
- Work towards the enablement of a Technician-led dispensary, covering all aspects of what is considered top of licence for pharmacy technicians.
- In partnership with the pharmacy Education and Training Team undertake regular reviews of training packs, ensuring competencies are appropriate and in line with service demand, current legislation and national guidance.
- To work closely with the Ward Services Operational Manager, utilising gap analysis methods and exploring potential improvements to across service delivery.
- Work closely with the Procurement manager to ensure the integrity and supply chain for all medication entering and leaving the Trust aligns to required standards as a hospital and wholesaler.
- Work closely with the Ward Services Operational Manager ensuring appropriate pharmacy management and intervention of the ward Medicines Returns Units. Ensure staff attending the Units undertake and complete relevant training.
