An exciting opportunity has arisen for two dynamic and flexible doctors to join our team of Consultants in Interventional Radiology at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. We are one of the UK's largest teaching Trusts and a Level 1 Trauma Centre, providing a tertiary interventional service to 1.5 million population. We offer significant opportunity for subspecialisation, including in stroke thrombectomy.

You will be part of a team undertaking an exciting programme of expansion, including an establishment of 9 consultants. The Interventional Radiology suite at UHCW is new, bespoke and well-equipped, with 4 theatre spec intervention rooms (with General Anaesthesia capability), a 7 bed day-case ward in Radiology and excellent access to PACS stations, cross table CT and associated software.

You will take part in a 1:8 on call rota and support specialist MDTs.

We are the principal Teaching hospital for Warwick Medical School and opportunities exist for increased research collaboration with Warwick University. You will be provided with home PACS for remote viewing of diagnostic imaging.

Main duties of the job

When not doing Interventional Radiology procedural work, the post-holder will undertake DCC sessions in clinic, CT, MR & US with commitment to support relevant body system MDTs. Audit, research, management & teaching activity can all be undertaken through SPA sessions. In addition: o Collaboratively provide & develop further services in Interventional Radiology, in line with the expectations of the Department and Trust. o Provide a consultation & advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust, referring Acute Trusts & Primary Care. o Take responsibility for the professional supervision & development of trainee doctors within the specialty. o Develop & maintain good communications with colleagues at referring Trusts, General Practitioners & appropriate external agencies. o Demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management & Clinical Audit - this will include the development & maintenance of appropriate systems & practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice. o Ensure own practice is up to date; this will include taking responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development & participating in the Trust's Performance & Annual Appraisal system & GMC revalidation. o Share responsibility for data protection arising of the use of computers. o Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures. All consultant radiologists will participate in an on-call rota & work towards seven day working in the future.

As part of our status as the main teaching hospital for Warwick Medical School all new appointments will have the opportunity to contribute to medical student teaching. Significant contributions to undergraduate teaching are recognised through additional SPA, usually in the form of specific roles that can be applied for Postgraduate teaching may include the direct supervision of Specialist Registrar lists and participation in various teaching programmes for Registrars. The combined teaching commitment is recognised through 0.5 SPA for teaching for new consultants. The appointee must reside within 30 minutes of the Trust (although this may be negotiable to some extent). All consultants are required to participate in clinical audit and continuing professional development. The Radiology Department has a clear policy for the implementation of Clinical Governance. As part of this each individual consultant is issued with a professional portfolio to enable him/her to document and record all the necessary details to demonstrate personal clinical governance and lifelong learning. Consultants are required to develop and maintain this portfolio and review of this will form part of annual appraisal. The appointee should have, or be within six months of obtaining, a CST and be on the Specialist Register. He/she should have had specialist training of at least 1 year in their chosen speciality at a recognised training establishment. Consultant appointments are made to the University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust; as services are developed and changed, the base of posts may alter and any employee of the Trust will be expected, within an agreed clinical strategy, to move his/her sessions as the service requires. In particular, your attention is drawn to the fact that the post advertised may include routine evening and week-end working as part of the working arrangements for the new hospital the details of which are currently under discussion. The specific scheduling of such activities would be subject to mutual agreement and may be agreed at a later date in the future.
