Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 nurse to work within our busy head and neck, maxillofacial and ENT out patients clinic. We provide a comprehensive day case service and procedures that covers all our 3 specialties including complex dressings. This is an ideal position for an enthusiastic and dynamic nurse to develop their leadership skills and expand their skills and experience. The successful candidate will be a positive role model who will support the development and education of staff, participates in supervision, mentorship and appraisal as required. A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team and support with clinical and the operation of service development.
Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills for our day case patients to ensure optimum patient management including complex patient monitoring; equipment management and frequent administration of invasive tests/procedures.
Candidates must have at least two years' experience as a staff nurse with knowledge of plastic surgery, head and neck, ENT and Maxillofacial services.
Main duties of the job
A skilled practitioner, providing leadership and management support, developing, improving, and evaluating best practice within the department.
The post-holder will deputise for the department manager as required within the department and across the Trust. The post-holder will support the management of clinical and operational issues relating to ENT, head and neck and maxillofacial services.
Provide expert daily leadership and support to all levels of staff in both clinical areas.
Maxfax, ENT and head and neck experience will be desirable.

- Accountable for own actions in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council, Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies always.
- Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team.
- A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development. The post holder will deputise in the absence of the clinic manager and will be responsible for the management of the team in their absence.
- Support the management of clinical and operational processes within the department, liaising with members of the Multidisciplinary Teams of all groups involved and Identify areas of service improvement and implementing improvements with the team using UHCWi methodology.
- Providing a high standard of care to all cohorts of patients across both departments by utilising our safety and quality protocol.
- Organisation of and participation in cross departmental/organisational activities including HR, sickness management, resourcing, and bleep-holder responsibilities as appropriate.
- Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical clinical skills, to ensure optimum patient management including complex patient monitoring, wound management, medicines management, safeguarding procedures, and equipment maintenance - acting as a resource and role model for junior staff.
