Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated dynamic nurse with excellent organisational skills to become an active member of the Skin cancer multidisciplinary team working across 3 hospital sites. You will participate in the provision of high-quality care to suspected skin cancer patients as well as new and follow up patients diagnosed with a skin cancer and their families through surgical, oncology and palliative treatments.
You will also become part of the newly created teledermatology team supporting the consultant dermatologists with our teledermatology pathway. This pathway will consist of nurse-led diagnosis and consenting telephone clinics, results clinics, supervised face to face suspected skin cancer clinic, as well as undertaking surgical procedures once trained.
You will also support the lead Macmillan skin cancer nurse specialist and advanced nurse practitioner to manage the skin cancer nursing team and actively participate with all aspects of the multidisciplinary team, adapting the service as required and supporting service development to ensure the service provided to both patients and team is World Class. This 20 month post has many opportunities, with set objectives as well as creating your own.

Main duties of the job
As well as supporting skin cancer patients and their families across 3 specialities, you will also become part of the newly created teledermatology team supporting the consultant dermatologists with our teledermatology pathway. This pathway will consist of nurse-led diagnosis and consenting telephone clinics, results clinics, supervised face to face suspected skin cancer clinic, as well as undertaking surgical procedures once trained.

- Ensure a high standard of care for all patients with a diagnosis of skin cancer, providing a high standard of psychosocial support for the patient and their family/carers during and after any treatment.
- Act as an effective key worker for all patients and their families, providing advice, support and signposting when necessary.
- Develop through completion of relevant post grad modules advanced clinical assessment skills in nurse led clinics to autonomously manage patients with a skin cancer diagnosis to ensure that optimum physical and psychological care needs are met.
- Develop nurse led clinics working in parallel with multidisciplinary team members.
- Ensure patients holistic needs are taken into consideration in the decision making process utilising the relevant tools and skills
- Utilise highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations.
- Attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings, and represent the MDT as required at local/regional business meetings and the West Midlands Expert Advisory Group meetings.
- Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes.
- Undertake highly specialised technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including; complex patient monitoring; equipment management and defined expanded clinical roles.
- Responsible for training provision of identified staff groups within defined areas
